We are many, we are 33,000! We are a significant part of Bonn’s population, yet our voice is often sidelined.
Local politics is a crucial tool for amplifying student interests. As students, we care deeply about the planning and development of public transportation expanding bus lines, creating new routes, and improving connectivity. We also have a vested interest in determining where new dormitories should be built and the capacity they should provide. Unfortunately, our connection to local politics is weak.
In 2025, we want to strengthen our ties to local government. The AStA should establish more direct communication channels with city officials to ensure our voices are heard and our concerns are addressed free from political party agendas.
Beyond university life, we are also witnessing an increasingly organized shift to the far right in society, a movement that we, as students, strive to oppose. The challenges are significant, and our resources are limited, yet we are determined to stand against ideologies rooted in hatred and exclusion.
Many of us have already encountered such harmful ideologies, often finding ourselves confronted with their insidious arguments—whether at home, on social media, or during daily commutes. The fight against fascism and far – right ideology isn’t confined to campus — it happens everywhere. That’s why we need to organize and support each other to collectively counteract this hate. We’ve already made progress, forging connections and raising awareness, though there is still much to be done.
Cross-list collaborations have led to the establishment of “Studis gegen Rechts” (Students Against the Far Right) here in Bonn. Together, we’ve achieved important milestones in raising awareness and working towards making our university safer, more inclusive, and a better place for everyone. A strong voice against the far right is essential, especially in the election year of 2025. The fight against fascism is a local battle, and we will continue to push for a fairer and more tolerant university.
