Bonn’s Bus Network Needs an Upgrade

Bus crowded again?

Mobility is an essential part of everyday student life. Whether you’re heading to a lecture or the cafeteria, or travelling between campuses, the journey needs to be fast, simple, and reliable.

Travel costs are one of the most critical aspects of student mobility. Many students face financial hardship and are at risk of poverty. That’s why we will continue to advocate for an affordable semester ticket with nationwide coverage in 2025.

But mobility isn’t just about securing an inexpensive semester ticket — it’s also about actively driving the transition to sustainable transportation. In the face of the climate crisis, the university must lead the way and demonstrate what a real mobility transition looks like. This doesn’t mean relying on individual cars, even electric ones, but instead building a strong and dependable public transport system and a well-developed cycling infrastructure.

Bonn’s public transport network still has significant room for improvement. We aim to push for more frequent and reliable bus and tram services. Lines like the 61, 632, 600, and 601 are essential for quick and efficient connections between lectures. Students should never be forced to miss classes or forgo a visit to the cafeteria because of poor bus schedules or inadequate tram services.

For truly sustainable mobility, we also need to prioritize cycling. The infrastructure at university locations must be continuously improved. It’s unacceptable that finding a place to park a bike is still a challenge.
